Former The Nice keyboard player Keith Emerson, former Gods-King Crimson bassist Greg Lake, and former Atomic Rooster drummer Carl Palmer. Formed by three star players from bands that were unique in the British rock scene of the time, Emerson, Lake & Palmer (hereafter referred to as EL&P) was undoubtedly a super band in the progressive rock scene of the 1970s, not to mention the rock scene of the day. Their debut album, released in November 1970, was highly acclaimed. The following May, 1971, EL&P released "Tarkus," which was followed by the band's first American tour. The Los Angeles show on July 19 was recorded and broadcast as a special program on a local FM station for promotion, and this album is a live album recorded during the broadcast.This was their first concert in the U.S. and the first performance of "Tarkus," the title song of their just-released album and a major work. The band's tension was high and they gave a thrilling live performance. This live album is a long-awaited release for fans, as no live archive of the "Tarkus" release period has ever seen the light of day!
