RUBEL, Brazil's leading SSW, a return to Brazilian music and a new masterpiece! ! Born in Rio de Janeiro in 1991, Hubel comes from a musical family. After going to Austin, Texas as an exchange student for college, Hubel released his first album, "Pearl," in 2013. Although the album did not make much of a splash when it was first released, Huber quickly came into the spotlight in 2015 when the video clip for "Quand Bate Aquela Saudade," a song from "Pearl," attracted attention (the song is still one of Huber's most popular songs in Brazil to this day! ). With financial support from Natura, a Brazilian natural cosmetics company, Hubel released her second album, Casas, in 2018. While "Pearl" was a folk album with an acoustic sound, "Casas" is a chamber-folk work that boldly incorporates hip-hop, electronics, and orchestral instruments. This work was highly acclaimed in Japan and won first place in the 2018 "Brazilian Disc Awards," presided over by "Latina," in a vote of interested parties.On the other hand, however, "Pearl" and "Casas" were decidedly light on traditional Brazilian music, which Huber has been listening to since he was a child. Of course, this is not at all surprising, since artists such as Frank Ocean, Chance the Rapper, and Bon Iver were among those who inspired him in the process of creating "Casas. Is this a reaction to this devotion to English-speaking artists? Huber's third album "As Palavras, Vol. 1 & Vol. 2," which follows "Casas," is clearly a return to Brazilian music. The album is intentionally divided into two parts, Disc 1 and Disc 2, with Disc 1 approaching the post-hip-hop Brazilian pop music already attempted in "Casas" and featuring rather upbeat songs. Disc 2, on the other hand, is more static, introspective ballads. The result is a grand narrative that embraces the stillness and movement of Brazilian music, absorbing cutting-edge sounds while at the same time paying homage to its traditions. (1/2)
