This album was recorded after the first Saito Kinen Festival Matsumoto (now Seiji Ozawa Matsumoto Festival), commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Saito Kinen Orchestra and the 50th anniversary of Hideo Saito's death. The album features the soloists, chorus, and Ozawa and SKO working as one in a tight-knit performance that draws expressive things out of the complex score, and even a single stroke of the triangle is recorded with clarity.
