Abstractions" is a five-movement suite inspired by a contemporary artwork at the Baltimore Museum of Art. The contrast of intense rhythm and melodic beauty in "The Raging Sea" recalls Stravinsky's "The Rite of Spring," while "The Color Field" is inspired by the "synaesthetic" world of hearing and sight.
