On September 7, 1822, amidst the turmoil of the political system in Portugal, which was embroiled in the Napoleonic Wars, Brazil gained independence with Pedro I, the crown prince of the Portuguese royal family, as its first emperor. His words "Independence or Death" became one of the slogans of the Brazilian empire. Pedro I was also a brilliant musician and one of the rare royalty and nobility in history who can be described as a "full-fledged composer. When the Overture was performed in Paris in 1832, many people believed it was by Rossini. The Te Deum," written to celebrate the baptism of his eldest son, is dramatic and operatic. The "Credo" is full of joy and is one of the most frequently performed works of Pedro I. The "Hymn to the Independence of Brazil" was written to celebrate the baptism of his eldest son. The "Hymn to Brazilian Independence" was the national anthem of the Brazilian Empire from 1822 to 1831, and is still sung in Brazil today. This is a series of Brazilian music that Naxos is promoting in partnership with the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and this release is appropriate for the 200th anniversary of Brazil's independence on September 7, 2022.
