The 1920s were known as the "Age of Mayhem." In the U.S., the special demands of World War I boosted the economy, traditions were destroyed, automobiles and radios entered daily life, and people were in constant search of entertainment. In London and Paris, culture flourished to such an extent that it overwhelmed the rest of the world, many British artists appeared on the Parisian stage, and in London, not only singers and conductors but also French composers' works were in vogue, and the two countries were in constant cultural exchange. Then came the popularization of dance incorporating jazz, which began to become fashionable, and these elegant pieces of music attracted many people. This album contains a number of works that emerged from the exchange between England and France at that time. The names of the composers have been largely forgotten today, but all of the pieces are so delightful that you will be instantly captivated when you hear them.Some of the songs are about the subtleties of relationships between men and women, as sung in early 20th century speakeasies, while others are musical in style, making this a disc that can be enjoyed to the fullest.
