Jonathan Leshnoff, a Grammy-nominated composer who has been described by the New York Times as "a leader of contemporary American lyricism," presents his fifth album for the NAXOS label, featuring three world premiere recordings on the themes of "Memories," "Reminiscence," and "Hope. The album is the fifth to be released on the NAXOS label. The Elegy, written in 2022 in memory of the victims of the Holocaust, is a lyrical and beautiful piece full of sorrow reminiscent of "Barber's Adagio"; the Violin Concerto from 2017 features a second movement that reflects the influence of Jewish mysticism, which he has pursued for many years, as well as a humorous expression in the It is a dramatic work with four closely intertwined movements, including a scherzo with a humorous expression. Of Thee I Sing" with chorus was written as a memorial to the 25th anniversary of the Oklahoma City federal building bombing in 1995. The piece begins with a pulsating string rattle, followed by the chorus singing "My Country, 'Tis of Thee," written by Samuel Francis Smith, in the latter half of the piece, and ends meditatively. The soloist in the violin concerto is Noah Bendix-Bargley, first concertmaster of the Berlin Philharmonic.
