Description:
Arthur Sullivan was a composer who took the world of comic opera by storm as "Gilbert & Sullivan" with the popular playwright William Gilbert. Their collaboration began in 1875, but Sullivan's talent for musical instruments and hymns began to attract attention at an early age, when he was awarded the Mendelssohn Prize at the age of 14. In the 1860s, he produced a succession of masterpieces, including "In Memoriam" (track 13), a memorial to his father, and a cello concerto, and was gradually acclaimed as one of England's greatest composers. In the 1960s, he produced a series of masterpieces, including In Memoriam (track 13), a memorial to his father, and a cello concerto. His contributions to dramatic music and opera in particular were outstanding, and in 1883 he was knighted by Queen Victoria.
