Ken Russell, who has garnered an enthusiastic following for his brilliant visuals and radical auteurism in films such as "Women in Love" (1969) and "Tommy" (1975), has created a complete film about the dramatic life of Russia's greatest musician, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.
Tchaikovsky's lust for his best friend Anton, his irascible love for his wife Nina, and his heart's cry for a mother.
Tchaikovsky's devastating love for Anton, his best friend, is portrayed in an eccentric and scandalous manner with overwhelming passion and explosive brilliance.
Tchaikovsky, who struggles with love, is played by Richard Chamberlain, who was an idol in the United States in the 1960s and appeared in popular films such as "The Towering Inferno" (1973).
Nina, the wife who goes mad because her husband does not want her, is played by Glenda Jackson, a leading British actor who won two Academy Awards for Ken Russell's "Women in Love" and "Weekend Love" (1973) and sadly passed away in 2023.
The insanity and sexually charged scenes towards the end of the film have become legendary, and it is often called "Ken Russell's best work.
This destructive masterpiece, which was only released on VHS in Japan for a long time, is now finally available on Blu-ray!
