The astonishing Ligeti by Lotto & Les Siecle! Ligeti was born in 1923 and died in 2006. Ligeti was born in 1923 and died in 2006, and 2023 is the 100th anniversary of his birth. It is an unusual idea for a period instrument group, Les Siecle, to perform Ligeti's works. Two of the three pieces are chamber pieces for woodwind quintet. Although this is an important repertoire in this genre, this is of course the first time it has been performed by period instruments. The quintet consists of Les Siecle members Marion Larancourt (flute), Hélène Muro (oboe), Christian Labrie (clarinet), Mickaël Rolland (bassoon), and Pierre Ruggeri (horn), and the first thing that struck me was the different tones of the woodwinds. The woodwinds, especially the bassons and horns, sound like the French sound of the 19th century, which is now on the verge of extinction, and the impression of the piece changes dramatically. Even more intriguing is the "Chamber Concerto" conducted by Lotto.This work for thirteen players is known for the strength of each player and the difficulty of the ensemble. Ligeti's unique and bizarre music unfolds, but its bright, pastel-like tone makes it neither difficult nor intractable. In fact, you can enjoy the 18 minutes of music in a blink of an eye. You cannot talk about Ligeti without listening to this. Hats off to Lotto and Les Siecle for their planning and ability. You cannot take your eyes off it. King International
