Israeli-born, New York-based Gilad Hekselman has a distinctive, progressive sound, and after more than 18 years based in New York City, he is making his presence felt with his masterful technique and unique sound that is both progressive and timeless. He has been actively releasing his music on the French Harmonia Mundi label (Le Chant du Monde / Jazz Village) and has also started his own label, Hexophonic Music. This is his first album for EDITION RECORDS in the UK, and was recorded in Tel Aviv, New York, and France.Featuring the like-minded Shai Maestro and Eric Harland, as well as such stellar guests as Ziv Ravitz, Amir Bressler, and Nomok, the adaptation to the unexpected process triggered by the pandemic resulted in a more adventurous sound. The new approach has resulted in a modern album that is both bold and simple, progressive yet accessible. Says Gilad. We returned from a three-month family vacation in Southeast Asia at the beginning of 2020 with a mountain of new music ready to play with the people. But then the pandemic hit, and suddenly all that was left to make this music happen were instruments, microphones, and computers. Not knowing how long this situation would last, I created a folder on my computer called "Song Demos" so that when I made a new record, I could immediately send the tracks to my band. Months went by, I watched hundreds of videos, took tutorials and sound engineering lessons, and consulted with producer friends. After thousands of hours of work, I finished the piece."Somehow this music, produced during the pandemic from inside the room, left me with memories of great freedom and liberation." M1 begins with whistling, M2 is cutting-edge jazz with electronic sounds that include Shai Maestro and Eric Harland, and M7 is groovy with an 8-beat style, all of which have a unique sound. The floating electronic sounds, which are somewhat reminiscent of outer space, and the prodigal, ultra-colorful guitars are impressive. The domestic edition comes with a commentary by Koji Ishizawa.
