I love the balalaika! and Yehudi Menuhin exclaimed, "To Mikhail Rojkov, a musician who embodies the soul of Russia. Thanks to you I have experienced the most exciting event of my life." Mikhail Rojukov (1918-2018), the legendary Russian balalaika player, was acclaimed by many great musicians, including the message Born and raised in Nizhny Novgorod on the Volga River, educators at the orphanage where he was raised took note of his exceptional talent. He was sent to Leningrad to study music in earnest. He remained active as a performer and educator for a long time, never letting go of his balalaika even in the midst of war, and died in 2018, just before his 100th birthday. This album is a collection of 15 selected pieces from Melodiya's collection of rare recordings of Rojkov.From traditional Russian folk songs to an arrangement of Monty's "Char D'Arche" that showcases his superb technique in spades, enjoy the one-of-a-kind artistry of the balalaika legend as he brings out the best in his instrument.
