The project "Boku ga mitai Senso" (The War I Saw" - I was born in 1939, the year World War II began. The picture book of the same title, which describes memories of war experiences, is newly retold with readings and music. Memories of Junior High School" - I was a junior high school student in the postwar period. On the occasion of the CD production: Seio Shimada I am pleased to announce the release of the CD "Boku ga mita sengen / Memories of Junior High School" on the music label Vacances Musicales. I was born at the beginning of World War II and was six years old when the war ended in 1945. In 2016, I published a picture book "Boku ga mitai Senso - 1945 Natsu" (The War I Saw - Summer of 1945), which describes "my war experience" in the summer when I was 6 years old, but at that time I never dreamed that this picture book would be reborn as a musical work. Mizuki Ohno, who studied composition at the Tokyo University of the Arts, is an up-and-coming young composer who is currently expanding his activities in a wide range of fields.Mr. Ohno also composed a song, "Memories of Junior High School," lyrics describing my memories of my junior high school days, which strongly reflect the state of affairs in the immediate postwar period, and it is also included in this album. I am a war survivor, and as someone who knows firsthand the experience of war, I feel a strong obligation to pass on my own experiences from generation to generation. Even today, wars continue to ravage the world, but the causes of war are many and varied. The causes of war are complex and diverse. Although it is impossible to make a general statement, it is often forgotten that when war actually breaks out, the actual position of the people in the world is often forgotten. In most cases, when the head of a country decides to go to war, it is impossible to resist, and in fact, history has always been told from the perspective of the powerful. When history is told primarily from the point of view of those in power, the inevitable consequences are the marginalization of underrepresented groups, the distortion of the truth, and the reinforcement of power structures. Regardless of the ideology to which one submits oneself, one thing is certain: "There must be no war. I am sure that all of you will agree that it is important to make a strong commitment to this.And in any case, the question, "What was the war?" should not be discussed solely from the standpoint of the victor or the vanquished. The experience of war is a harsh one, and it is a truth that those who experienced it would like to forget it if they could, but it is also an immortal truth that we must never forget it. In this album, rather than trying to convey the universal truth of the war experience in its most intense form (which would be impossible with any form of art), I intended to tell the story as it was, as much as I was able to experience it myself as a child, with the atmosphere of that time period. The "decisive moment when the ordinary ceases to be ordinary" comes suddenly, one day at a time. I hope that this small "testimony of history" will reach you as beautiful art.
