Ethiopian popular music is known for having one of the most unique musical cultures on the African continent. In the 1950s, the government began to actively participate in the music industry, and in the 1960s, with the wave of modernization, the center of the music industry shifted from the government to the private sector, and in the capital Addis Ababa, nightclubs and bars sprang up, and young musicians who absorbed foreign music emerged. The city entered a golden age as young musicians absorbed music from abroad. Ethiopeak is a series of edited CDs introducing the music scene of that era from various angles (with some exceptions). The second collection is a work that has never been released in Japan before. In contrast to the first collection, this one introduces the current state of a performing arts group called "Azumari," which carries on the Ethiopian tradition. (C)RS
