Love Life" is a pioneering concept musical created by Kurt Weill and Alan Jay Lerner. Featuring Sam and Susan, a couple who never age, the play sharply examines the concept of marriage itself, depicting the changing customs of society and the struggles of married life from 1791 to 1948. The delightful vaudeville-style numbers inserted in the intervals of the story strongly influenced later musical masterpieces such as "Cabaret" and "Chicago. This work, which Weill himself described as "a new form of theater," and which Sondheim credited with helping him to create his own work, is a masterpiece that combines a wide variety of American musical language, and has been praised by conductor Holmes as "one of Weill's best scores. When it premiered, it was performed 252 times and won a Tony Award for lead actress Nanette Fabray.
