Franz Anton Hofmeister was one of the most popular composers in Vienna during the 18th and 19th centuries. He composed nine operas, about 70 symphonies, nearly 50 string quartets, and many concertos, religious works, and vocal works, and was also a music publisher. He knew what music lovers of his day liked, and he incorporated his own new ideas into his works, and his refined musical style was widely acclaimed as "the most remarkable, outstanding, and prolific composer of his time.This album contains Hofmeister's works from the 1780s and 1790s. Enjoy the brilliant passages for two accomplished soloists in the Horn Concerto, the graceful and lively hunting theme in the "Hunting" Symphony, and "La Primavera (Spring)," with its smooth and pleasing orchestral sound throughout. Christoph Ess, principal horn player of the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, and Stefan Schottstedt, arranger and member of the German Hornsound, which he founded, will give a fine performance in the horn concerto.
