Description:
The young Donizetti's masterpiece "Chiara and Serafina" has been revived after 200 years! --The world's first filming! A co-production between the Donizetti Opera House and La Scala Academia, the play takes place on the island of Majorca in the 17th century. Captain Don Alvaro is attacked by pirates and sold into slavery while sailing the Mediterranean Sea with his daughter Chiara. Don Fernando, a friend of Don Álvaro, takes advantage of his absence to entangle Don Álvaro's other daughter, Serafina, and take over her property, but Serafina already had a lover, Don Ramillo, whom she had promised to marry. Don Alvaro and Chiara, freed from their long and painful slavery, return to the city. ...... After successful performances of the opera in Naples and Rome, Donizetti, in his mid-20s, was commissioned by La Scala in Milan to create a prestigious new work. The opera "Chiara and Serafina" was written by the renowned writer Felice Romani. However, due to the significant delay in writing the libretto, Donizetti was forced to compose the opera in a very short period of time, and the first performance (October 26, 1822) took place under the worst possible conditions, with no rehearsal time.As a result, the production was so poorly received that it was cancelled after only a few performances and was put in storage. This is a stage recording of the revival in Bergamo, Donizetti's birthplace, in December 2022, 200 years after its premiere, with Sesto Quartini, an expert in the genre, leading the Li'orginari, an orchestra founded to perform 19th century operas on period instruments, and the new The orchestra features young singers from the Accademia di Scala, led by Pietro Spagnoli, well-known in Japan for his role as Count Almaviva in the National Opera's "The Marriage of Figaro" (2017). The pop and colorful masquerade by Gianluca Falaschi, a renowned Italian clothing designer and director, and the lively acting and singing of the singers in costume brought young Donizetti's ambitious work vividly back to life in the modern age.
