Description:
The first CD release of Arnoncourt's Salzburg Mozart Week debut concert, the sound of innovation in Mozart's birthplace】The "Mozart Week" music festival, which began in Salzburg in 1956, the bicentennial of Mozart's birth, is held annually around his birthday (January 27). The festival is held every year around his birthday (January 27), welcoming performers from Austria and abroad. In this 3-CD set, CD1 features the first appearance of Nikolaus Arnoncourt with the Concertgebouw Orchestra in 1980, and CD2 and CD3 feature a public rehearsal in 2006. The 1980 performance is in the HIP style, which is not uncommon today, with its accentuation of accents, sometimes extreme tempo settings, rhythmic emphasis reminiscent of dance steps, restrained vibrato, and wildly aggressive brass and percussion. The applause from the audience sounded favorable, but the "Courier" gion carried a critical review that said, "They played with phrasing that deliberately went against the natural flow of Mozart's melodies. At the time, Karajan and Bernstein were at the height of their fame, and three days after this performance, Böhm appeared at the festival to conduct the last three symphonies. The series of Mozart recordings by Arnoncourt and the Concertgebouw Orchestra that would later become the talk of the town had not yet come out, and one can imagine that this performance sounded very challenging and different from the mainstream and traditions of the time.In November of the same year, they recorded Mozart Symphonies Nos. 34 and 35 for Teldec, launching a series of Mozart symphonies that would have a decisive impact on subsequent performances of classical works, both for and against the composer. The performance recorded here could be said to have heralded such a historical turning point. Werner Herbels, who plays the oboe solo in the concerto, has been a principal player of the Concertgebouw Orchestra since 1970, and has been involved in the study and practice of ancient music performance. This CD is also a memorial to Mozart, who passed away in June 2023. CD2 and CD3 are the recordings of the public rehearsals held in June 2006, the 250th anniversary of Mozart's birth. Arnoncourt, who was recognized as an authority on Mozart interpretation, was invited as an artist-in-residence to share his views on music with the Camerata Salzburg. The rehearsal is in German, and no text is available. Naxos Japan
