Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli (1920-1995), one of the most famous pianists of the 20th century, is now available remastered live at the age of 36. A perfectionist, Michelangeli was very selective about his collaborators and repertoire, rarely giving the OK to recordings, but he did agree to broadcasts, and according to Pianist Discography.com, there are seven different recordings of Mozart's No. 15 and nine of his No. 20. Recorded live at the Ludwigsburg Festival on July 11, 1956, the bicentennial of Mozart's birth, the performance is intelligent, powerful, and propulsive, as was typical of Michelangeli in his prime. This is the same sound source as that released by ICA CLASSICS in 2013 using a master licensed from SWR (Southwest German Radio), but this time it has been newly mastered by the original SWR. The conductor Antoine de Bavier (also Anton von Bavier) is a clarinetist from Switzerland.He began conducting at the urging of Furtwängler, conducted the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra, taught chamber music at the Mozarteum Salzburg, and in the 1990s was the conductor of the Suk Chamber Orchestra in Prague.
