Album commemorating the 150th anniversary of Vaughan Williams' birth. The live recording of the world premiere performance of No. 9 is reissued in crystal clear sound! Malcolm Sargent (1895-1967) was the permanent conductor of the BBC Symphony Orchestra from 1950 to 1957. He also excelled in Vaughan Williams' works, and here we have live recordings of three of his works: the overture to "The Sparrowbee" (1957), Symphony No. 9 (1958), and Symphony No. 6 (1964). Sargent's music is superb, with the two orchestras' individuality highlighted and yet with a sense of refinement. The performance of "Symphony No. 9" is especially historic, as it is the world premiere in the presence of the composer himself in his later years. The performance is a masterful performance by Sargent, who had earned Vaughan Williams' deep trust. The reissue was carefully remastered by Rani Spahr, a leading British remastering engineer who has reissued many masterpieces in the past, to bring back the realistic sound without noise.
