Here comes "Iberia," a piece that Gellner says he feels strong empathy for as a Spanish speaker. This is a masterpiece in the history of 20th century piano music, highly praised by Debussy and Messiaen, and played with the delicate touch and dynamic expression that only he, who has gained worldwide support not only for his high technique but also for the beauty of the sound he produces, can offer. The highlights include the highly pianistic phrasing of "Lavapiés," the dazzling technique of the polyphonic and complex rhythmic passages, and the prayer of "Jerez," which evokes the mysteries of the night.
