Description:
This is the third chamber music collection by Austrian composer and pianist Joseph Rabois (Rabolu), a focus of the CAPRICCIO label. Despite the handicap of being blinded by smallpox when he was a child, Rabolu was an educator and trained many pupils. Among the most important events for him was teaching the pianist Paul Wittgenstein, who lost his right hand in the war, and most of Láboa's 80 or so works have been published through the efforts of the wealthy Wittgenstein family. The Sonata for Cello and Left-Hand Piano on this album was also dedicated to Wittgenstein, and the close relationship between the two is evident in the technical use of the piano. The melancholy Adagio of the Clarinet Trio is a melody that suggests the influence of Brahms, who was a close friend of LaBois's. The three virtuosos of the "Ensemble Tris" perform this piece.
