Description:

The eldest son of Johann Stamitz, known as the founder of the Mannheim School of Music, Karl Stamitz was taught by his father. After his father's death, he played in the Mannheim Court Orchestra from 1762, and later became a violinist and viola player in Paris. He also became a successful composer, composing more than 100 symphonies and concertos influenced by the polysyllabic and Gallant styles. Stamitz sought new avenues in the symphonic form, and his "Otaen Symphony," conceived in Versailles in 1772, produced a wonderful symphonic work with a title. The work, which depicts a refreshing morning, evening, and hunting scene in the countryside, has a rather innovative atmosphere for its time. Written earlier than Knecht's "Musical Depiction of Nature," which was performed at La Folle Journée, it is truly a precursor to Beethoven's "Countryside Symphony. The sound of the first movement, the storm scene in the second movement, the quiet night scene in the third movement, and the horn sound in the last movement are all very captivating. Naxos Japan
