Description:
Berlioz's version of Gluck's masterpiece "Orfeo e uridice" is now available! Gluck's masterpiece "Orfeo e Euridice" (sung in Italian) was premiered in Vienna in 1762, then extensively revised in Paris in 1774, where it was first performed as "Orfeo e Ulidice" (sung in French). Deeply enamored with Gluck, Berlioz conceived the idea of modifying the work, introducing a mezzo-soprano for the role of Orphe, expanding the instrumentation, and adding cadenzas to several arias to make the entire work more spectacular. As a result, the production was a great success. In this video, the two title roles, Marianne Crevassa (Orphe), one of the best mezzo-sopranos of our time, and Hélène Gumet (Ulidis), a soprano of note in the ancient music world, are joined by Léa Desandre (God of Love) in a superb performance of singing. In addition, the dancers perform impressive dances on a modern, beautifully sculpted stage.Pichon, who conducts the Ensemble Pygmalion in every direction, supports the singing and dancing while creating music that is both lighthearted and profound, bringing us closer to the essence of this timeless collaboration between Gluck and Berlioz.
