Nielsen (1865-1931)

Description:

The first CD by the combination of the prestigious Danish National Symphony Orchestra (Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra) and its chief conductor Fabio Luisi, a Scandinavian institution, is now available! Selected for the "Japan Tour 2019 Special Edition" are works by Danish national composer Nielsen and internationally acclaimed contemporary Danish composer Sørensen (Seansen). The first piece, Sørensen's "Evening Land," was commissioned by the New York Philharmonic in 2017 and premiered that same year to rave reviews in the New York Times. The dramatic content of the piece reflects the landscape the composer saw as a child: the gentle string melody at the beginning, which evokes nostalgia and nostalgia, turns into a landscape with explosive energy, like a volcanic eruption, before tranquility gradually returns. The second piece, Nielsen's "Commotio," originally for organ, was conceived in 1913 and completed in 1931, Nielsen's final year, and is a crystallization of his creative skills and a beautiful sublimation of his spiritual impulses. This time, Ebrahmsen, another leading contemporary Danish composer, has obtained new colors by painstakingly transferring the sound of the organ to the orchestra. The third piece, "Symphony No. 5," is a work rich in ups and downs that reflects the effects of World War I, which Nielsen experienced. Peace and strife are contrasted in this work, with the most memorable moment coming in the middle of the first movement, when the drums are violently improvised and the music is in full swing. The live performance at the Danish Radio Concert Hall, which boasts one of the best acoustics in the world, is a wonderful recording, and Luigi's precise conducting is a perfect example of the high quality of contemporary Danish classical music.
