The complete piano works of Kula, a Finnish composer who studied with Sibelius. Kula was born into a poor family, and after studying hard in Paris, he established himself as a composer of the generation following Sibelius. However, he tragically died at the age of only 35, shot to death in an argument with a drunken soldier at a banquet. The "Wedding March" is like a mystical fairy tale world, the "Celebration March" that slowly builds up a sense of elation, and the "Dance of the Sheep" that resembles a folia but has an unstable harmonic progression that gives it a bewitching charm. All of these works are unique, lovely, and accessible to many people. Adam Johnson, a native of England, is a gifted pianist, conductor, and music director of the Northern Lights Symphony Orchestra in London, as well as a composer with many works to his credit. He gives a beautiful performance that accompanies Kohler's works. Naxos Japan
