Sakari Oramo and the Vienna Philharmonic present their second collection of works by Danish composers. This time, however, they break new ground with works by Lango, a composer belonging to the Late Romantic period. Born in Denmark, Langó was a composer whose works were so avant-garde for his time that they were not recognized during his lifetime, and only after his death did they gain recognition. The two symphonies have a Romantic flavor, with Richard Strauss-like heavy harmonies in No. 2, while No. 6 has a mystical tone with religious overtones ("Det Himmelrivende" in the title is a phrase from the biblical book of Isaiah, which describes a scene of God "tearing open the heavens" and descending from the heavens). The title "Det Himmelrivende" is from the biblical book of Isaiah, which describes a scene of God coming down "tearing open the heavens.) Symphony No. 14," of which only the second movement is included on this album, is also known for its sensuous tone, including the titles of each movement. It is rare that the Vienna Philharmonic performs this work.
