Kllo, the Melbourne-based electronic music duo of cousins Simon Lam and Chloe Kaul, also known as Australia's The XX, have finally completed their second album, Maybe We Could! After two years of world touring and several single releases following the release of their 2017 debut, Backwater, which received critical acclaim in various places, both were working on solo works with each other. After those experiences, they began to create together again and have completed a fresh start with 10 gems that combine dance music rhythms with emotional chords and melodies. The lead single, "Still Here," is a wistful, galloping track with 90s rave-style drums under a sensitive piano ballad. It took me quite a while to believe in this decision," Chloe says, "but the result is a beautiful, danceable sound that beautifully blends the two styles that both artists prefer. Insomnia" is a melancholic, smooth sound with soft keys and a hard beat. This is the first track to be written from a separate location, as both artists contributed material to each other while in North America during their hiatus.Its feel reflects the joys of jet lag and a sense of displacement, heavily influenced by time spent in North America. The highlight of the album, then, is "Somehow." A swirling dance track that captures an unbalanced relationship, the synth line spirals from stillness over a percussive beat, unfolding in a dizzying but comfortable manner. Ironhand" is a bittersweet R&B song that confronts the fear of loss and change, a true reflection of the duo's diverse, sensitive, and strong personalities. The album follows the impulses of unrequited love, doubt, desire, and determination, while adopting a smoother, more nuanced tone. Of course, there is the dynamism of Kllo's past work, but with age and experience, the result is a more elegant and tasteful work that raises expectations for a further breakthrough.
