Description:
Formed in France in 1973 around the talented pianist and composer Cyril Verdo, Clear Light is both Verdo’s solo project and a progressive rock band. Having received a classical music education from an early age, he joined the rock band “BABYLON” in 1971 and subsequently began his career in the rock music scene in earnest. Inviting various guest musicians for each album, they released works showcasing a wide range of musical styles—including their signature lyrical phrases, classical/symphonic arrangements, and electronic sounds—and continue to enjoy strong support from dedicated progressive rock fans to this day. Now, Clear Light’s four albums released in the early 1970s, along with their latest album released in 2014, make their debut in a new Japan-exclusive UHQCD/paper sleeve edition! This release is their debut album, recorded between 1973 and 1974 and first released under the name Clear Light in 1975. Featuring Steve Hillage (g), Tim Blake (kbds), and Didier Marel (t.sax)—members of the French progressive/psychedelic rock band Gong—the album offers the lyrical "First Movement," built around Verdo’s brilliant grand piano refrains, and "Second Movement," a symphonic rock track that, despite being drumless, showcases a trippy finish and high level of craftsmanship as these three core members of Gong at their peak weave psychedelic sounds throughout. Though not a technically virtuosic ensemble, this is a historic masterpiece that offers a glimpse into Verdot’s early creative impulses and sophisticated musicality. Japanese Edition UHQCD *Reproduction of the original LP: E-style single paper sleeve (includes obi strip and a bilingual translation of Cyril Verdo’s original English album liner notes) Track 1 Cyril Verdo (keyboards) Christian Boulet (guitar) Gilbert Armand (drums, percussion) Martin Isaac (bass) Track 2 Cyril Verdo (keyboards) Tim Blake (keyboards, percussion) Steve Hillage (guitar) Didier Marel (saxophone)
