Description:

<The second edition of "60s R&B Girls Heaven," her first album from 1962, with additional singles such as "Piece of My Heart"! Irma Franklin, also known as Aretha Franklin's sister, is a great singer who should be passed down to posterity, even though there are only a few recordings left. This CD contains 18 tracks from her first album "Her Name Is Erma" released in 1962, including "Piece Of My Heart," which led Janis Joplin to her big break, and other important singles for both Epic and Shout labels. If Janis Joplin had not picked up "Piece Of My Heart" (1967), Irma Franklin's name might never have been mentioned for years to come. It was Irma's only song to chart on the HOT 100, but it was not a big hit (#10 on the R&B chart). I was underwhelmed when I bought the single version of the song in my sophomore year of high school, coupled with "Open Up Your Soul/Piece of My Heart," and later, when I heard Janice's cover version, I became more and more attached to the Armah version. As Janis was 'deified', "Piece Of My Heart" seemed to become her signature song, and the original singer, Irma Franklin, was even nominated for "Best Female R&B Singer" at the 11th Annual "Grammy Awards" (announced on March 12, 1969) for this one song. She was even nominated for "Best Female R&B Singer" at the 11th Grammy Awards (announced on March 12, 1969) (five in total). The winner was Aretha Franklin, who sang "Chain Of Fools. The other nominees were Barbara Acklin, Etta James, and Ella Washington. It is assumed that Aretha was considered the obvious choice to win the Grand Prix. ~From the commentary by Toru Ueshiba
