Russian pianist Konstantin Lifshitz. The Ballets Russes, a ballet company led by Diaghilev, was founded in 1909 at the Chatelet Theatre in Paris and had a great influence on the Parisian public at that time, From 1910 until Diaghilev's death in 1929, a number of ballets were created, some with pioneering beauty and some with legendary performances, including the music. and some of the performances have been passed down to posterity with legendary stories. Lifshitz has chosen works by three composers involved in the "Ballets Russes" in an attempt to convey the atmosphere of the Russian boom that swept Paris at the beginning of the 20th century.Debussy's "Six Ancient Epitaphs" was not commissioned by Diaghilev, but it is a work with an ancient Greek atmosphere, very similar to the world of "the synthesis of all beauty" that the Ballets Russes aimed for. Ravel's "Daphnis et Chloe" was commissioned for the Ballets Russes, but it was not a real success and is rarely performed today. Lifshitz's own arrangement is ambitious, and not at all inferior to the sound created by the orchestra. Stravinsky's "Apollo leading the Muse" was composed after the great success of "Petrushka" and "The Firebird," but here Stravinsky does not pursue radicalism, writing quiet music without excessive ornamentation. Stravinsky's own piano version further emphasizes its simplicity.Yakovlov's "Carousel," written for Lifshitz, is a piece that links the piece to the time period and reminds us of the cycle of human life.
