The "Bruckner Archives" series combines entertainment and enlightenment with the "Complete Symphonies for Four Hands on the Piano. This second work is a super problem. What a jazz arrangement of Bruckner! Arranging, conducting, soprano saxophone, tenor saxophone, and piano is Austrian prodigy Thomas Mandel (1965-), who studied piano and baroque flute at the Gimnasium for Music in Linz, and went on to study composition and arranging. In 2007, he conducted his own Temporary Arts Orchestra at St. Florian's in the premiere of Bruckner's Symphony No. 5 "Jazz Version". The orchestra's performance of Bruckner's Symphony No. 5 "Jazz Version," with a lengthy introduction reminiscent of "My Favorite Things" and a frenzied, frenzied performance, stunned the audience. In 2010, they performed Bruckner No. 7 at the Brucknerfest.Bruckner fans often talk about the "cosmic rumbling," and one can only take one's hat off to the guts and brazenness with which this is thoroughly and artificially expressed. This is a monstrous work in which Mandel has sadistically cooked up Bruckner's symphonic music, which has been compared to baroque architecture built with relentlessly repeated tremolos, as much as he likes.
