Georges Georgescu

Description:

We have reissued many masterpieces by Georges Georgescu (1887-1964) on the original Romanian Electorecord recordings. The person who gave us advice on the publication of these recordings was Mr. Djordjescu's daughter, Ioana. She suggested that we reissue her late father's studio recordings with the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra on Sprafon as "the best sound quality performance of his late father. With the selfless cooperation of King International, we are pleased to announce that the first worldwide reissue using the Sprafon master tapes will appear on the 50th anniversary of his death. Takao Suga, a treasure of King Sekiguchidai Studio, was in charge of the reproduction and mastering. The difference in quality is obvious, as the former Dante/LYS reissues were inferior to the LPs. The Czech Philharmonic Orchestra was at its peak after overcoming the postwar turmoil (Tarich's "My Homeland" was also recorded during this period), and the ensemble's quality is also something to behold. Djordjesk is a familiar face with the Czech Philharmonic, having appeared frequently with them in "Prague Spring," and they are an excellent match. The performance is a masterpiece, and the crisp rhythmic sense of Beethoven's Seventh is pleasant to listen to. Death and Transfiguration" is stylish, more like Strauss's own expression than Furtwängler's, who was a contemporary of Strauss and a close friend. The Liszt and Rachmaninov with the block-lettered taste of Valentin Gheorghiu (1928-), a Romanian virtuoso highly praised by Djordjescu and still active in the field, are also worth listening to.
