Description:
Pierre Boulez (1925-2016) was one of the most intelligent musicians of the 20th century. To commemorate the 100th anniversary of his birth, we have newly remastered three of his most famous CBS recordings, Stravinsky's three great ballets. The 1969 "The Rite of Spring," featuring the Cleveland Orchestra, is a representative "Halsai" recording from the latter half of the 20th century that reveals the work's avant-garde nature by making the musical structure as clear as an openwork. 1971's "Petrushka," his first recording after becoming music director of the New York Philharmonic, features the piano part, which was recorded in 1971 by the New York Philharmonic. In the complete "Firebird" from 1975, the orchestra's virtuosity is used to the utmost to recreate a colorful orchestration. The "Kastchei's Vicious Dances" is a masterpiece of the orchestra. The 1910 Suite (BBC Symphony Orchestra, 1967), which ends with "The Evil Dance of the Kastchei," is also included in this recording. New DSD remastering from the original analog masters to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Boulez's birth. (C)RS
