Katsushika Hokusai was a maverick painter in the Edo period, and Katsushika Oei was his daughter and pupil. Oui was said to have a talent for painting that surpassed that of her father, and as Hokusai's right-hand man and one of the few female painters, she painted her entire life. Although she could neither make tea nor do needlework, she was a pioneering female artist who ran through male-dominated society with a boldness that was inherited from her parents. She tried to live honestly and freely in her heart, but what happiness did she find in the end? Directed and written by Tatsushi Omori, who has delicately depicted the depths of human nature in films such as "Hibi Kore Koka Hi" and "Hoshi-no-Ko". The main character, Oui Katsushika, is played by Masami Nagasawa, who has been leading the Japanese film industry since she came into the limelight with "Crying Out Love, in the Center of the World" (2004). This will be Nagasawa's first starring role in a period drama, and her first collaboration with director Omori since "MOTHER" (2020). Nagasawa will also be composing the music for the film, which will be his first collaboration with Omori since "When I lost my mother, I wanted to eat her bones. (When I Lost My Mother, I Wanted to Eat Her Remains). The melancholy trumpet echoes and chic sounds add color to the story of the unknown genius painter, Oei. (C)RS
