Description:

The resplendent sounds of choir and orchestra. A collection of beautiful Japanese choral masterpieces that have been passed down through the generations. This is the second installment in the acclaimed series that brings Japanese choral masterpieces to life with the rich sounds of orchestra and choir. While Kazuki Yamada conducted the previous installment, this recording features a performance led by the popular conductor Norichika Iimori. The dynamic sound crafted by Iimori—who is renowned for his work in opera and choral music—is a highlight of this album. The track list includes “The Life of Water” by Saburo Takada, considered a quintessential work of Japanese choral music. It also features “Oborozukiyo” “Tea Picking,” “Autumn Leaves,” “Snow,” and “Evening Glow”—songs from “The Four Seasons of Japanese Folk Songs” that celebrate Japan’s beautiful landscapes. The program is further enriched by works from the talented young composer Maki Ueda, as well as Kan Ishii’s unaccompanied masterpiece “Wind Ripples,” offering a program brimming with the full charm of choral music. These orchestral accompaniment recordings are extremely rare; their beauty and symphonic sound—which cannot be fully appreciated with piano accompaniment alone—seem to overflow with the energy inherent in the works, making for a deeply moving experience. Why not let yourself be carried away by the sound of these choral pieces—which will be sung for generations to come—while envisioning Japan’s beautiful landscapes? Octavia Records
