This is a work by Mathilde Febvrere, a violinist who is active as a session musician in all aspects of her work. My goal this time was to get as close as possible to Stéphane's quintessential beautiful and precise tone," says Mathilde Febvrère, who gave a wonderful performance at the 2022 concert in Japan of the chanson singer Claire Elgier. This is Mathilde's first leader album and is dedicated to the great French-born violinist Stéphane Grappelli. Matilde's teachers were jazz violinist Didier Lockwood and Pierre Blanchard. Like Mathilde, they both started their careers in jazz from classical music and were students of Stéphane Grappelli. This is why Mathilde is said to be a violinist in the direct lineage of Stéphane Grappelli.When working on this album, Mathilde says, "I listened to all of Stefan's albums at home, and also listened to all of his non-album material. It took us two months to decide on the songs for the album. Stéphane also had a great appreciation for the creativity of young people. So we decided to include some of our own original songs, with Stéphane's image in mind. In addition to covering Stéphane's repertoire, I wanted to show that I have taken the baton as his successor by including some of his original songs on this album." Regarding the title of the album, Mathilde says, "The title of the album, 'Un violon pour tout bagage,' was inspired by the title of Stéphane's biography, 'Mon violon pour tout bagage' ('My only possession is my violin. The title was inspired by the title of Stéphane's biography, "Mon violon pour tout bagage" ("My only possession is my violin"). It means that the violin is my whole life. That's exactly what I am.This album is a tribute to Stefan Grappelli and his two mentors, and also a sign of his determination to carry on Stefan's footsteps into the future.
