Germany's hottest young Jarnach 20th century piano works by Ravel, Bartók, and others by her grandfather Jarnach! Lucy Jarnach, a pianist born in Hamburg in 1987, studied with G. Grumann, G. Opitz, and others. Jarnach, whose repertoire ranges from Scarlatti to contemporary works, has chosen Ravel, Bartók, and P. Jarnach. All of them represent composers from the late 19th century to the 20th century, and the program is full of difficult pieces that require a very high level of expression and technique. Philippe Jarnach (1892-1982) was one of the leading composers of the 20th century, active mainly in France. It is no coincidence that she and Lucie share the same surname; she is Philippe's grandson. The "Three Piano Pieces" was composed in 1924, and each movement is titled after a baroque dance. The style of the piece is strongly influenced by Busoni, and the melodies, which seem to wander between tonalities, are impressive.While the "Sarabande" is a slow, polyphonic tune that bites into every single note, the "Burlesca" has an appealing, somewhat frightening sense of humor, thanks to its leaps of sound and light rhythmic feel. Jarnach's fingerings are very strong, and even the heavy low register percussion does not lose its rhythmic sense. Even Bartok's "In the Open Air" brings out the full charm of the clarity and power of touch! The expressive power is also excellent, and the use of the clear, transparent tone in Ravel and the dark, deep, heavy tone in Jarnach and Bartók are both superb. This is a young talent who is sure to be a focus of attention, and we can expect great things from him in the future! King International
