Description:
The Renner Ensemble Regensburg was founded in 1987 by Bernd Englebrecht, a longtime choir leader, in honor of Regensburg Cathedral organist and composer Josef Renner Jr. (1868-1934). Most of the ensemble's members were educated at the music school attached to the Regensburg Cathedral Choir (founded in 975), the oldest surviving choir in the world. This release features Liszt's rare organ mass for male chorus, the "Sexualdo Mass," and vocal works by composers such as Rossini, Berlioz, and Cornelius, all of whom were close friends of Liszt. The organ is played by Bayreuth-based cantor Christoph Krückl. Tokyo M-Plus
