Philippe Jordan (1974-) was born in Zurich, Switzerland. After graduating from a local conservatory, he worked at many opera houses. In 2009, he became Music Director of the Opéra National de Paris, and in 2014, he assumed the important position of Chief Conductor of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra. While his early works, such as Nos. 1 and 2, are full of fluid and smooth phrases reminiscent of Haydn and Mozart, from No. 3 onward, he emphasizes Beethoven's individuality and his strong sense of structure and the experimentalism that pervades each piece. The video clearly captures Jordaan's careful weaving of music that is "the Beethoven of the 21st century," including the experimental elements that abound in each piece. The images are of the highest quality currently available, and are pleasing to the eye along with the elaborate camerawork.
