Bosch's Dvořák series with solid skillsSymphony No. 1 "The Bells of Zlonice "Markus Bosch has been working on the Dvořák series with the Nuremberg State Philharmonic, of which he has been the music director since 2011. The sixth installment is No. 1, "The Bells of Zlonice. This symphony was completed in 1865, but the score was lost in transit, found in a secondhand bookstore in Germany in 1923, and finally premiered in 1946, 71 years after its completion. The symphony is subtitled "The Bells of Zlonice," referring to the town where Dvořák lived when he was young. No bells are actually used in the piece, but the woodwinds in turn represent the sound of bells, which can be heard echoing like the actual sound of bells. It is also said to reflect Dvořák's love for the actress Josefina Chermakova, whom he was in love with at the time. In terms of form, the influence of Beethoven, whom Dvořák admired, can be seen. The first movement uses a rhythmic motive, which is then used in all the movements as if it were a circular form.Next, the tonal plan of C minor, A-flat major, C minor, and C major is consistent with Beethoven's Symphony No. 5. Markus Bosch has demonstrated his skill with meticulous interpretation so far in this series, and although this first piece has been buried for a long time without being performed, the energy and passion of the young Dvořák are clearly audible in his interpretation.
