This piece juxtaposes Bach's Chaconne (Partita No. 2), the most dominant work written for solo violin, with works by Bach's pioneers, and examines the history and development of polyphonic performance on the violin. It is also notable for the technique and musicality of Annegrette Ziedel, who shows how the violin, treated above all as a melody instrument, can create rich music with only four strings. ...... Annegrette Ziedel's technique and musicality are also outstanding. Ziedel uses an instrument by Jacob Steiner (ca.1617-1683), made around 1670, as a violin with a noble, bright, and colorful sound, which was considered ideal for this period, and allows us to taste the authentic sound of the time the music was made.
