This is the thirteenth volume of the Ensemble Musikfabrik, a group specializing in contemporary music of the highest caliber. Once again, the performance is of a tremendous level. Except for the Grisey piece, all of the other pieces are world premiere recordings, making them extremely valuable. The booklet is folded and decorated with a painting by Gerhard Richter, one of Germany's finest painters. The different tonal layers interact with each other and open the ear to new territory. It may be said to represent the contemporary intermingling of different cultures. The pieces are difficult, requiring highly complex and technical ensembles, but the performances are flawless. The performance is perfect, with shimmering special effects, noisy long tones, and sudden singing. In (4), the piano and percussion are played simultaneously to imitate the sound of bells.
