Description:
Soprano & Piano version of Stockhausen's famous Tierkreis (Twelve Melodies for Constellations)! Also includes four folk songs from Berio! A tribute to two of the greatest composers of the 20th century, arranged for soprano and piano. The WERGO label, which has previously released an ensemble version led by Svoboda on trombone and an organ version, now presents a performance by soprano and piano. The Zodiac has its roots in the stage work "MUSIK IM BAUCH" (1974), which was originally performed by six percussionists. This piece is for six percussionists, who have a large bird man called "Miron" hanging above their heads, and a music box hidden in the bird man's stomach, which the performers move as the story progresses.The melody that is worked into this music box was written by Stockhausen and represents the characteristics of the 12 constellations in pitch, rhythm, harmony, and dunamik. The soprano sings this melody on this disc, and the piano handles the harmonies. The lyrics are very unique, as the performance is based solely on texts describing the characteristics of each zodiac person. Stockhausen's Piano piece IX is one of eleven piano pieces he wrote between 1952-61. It is a piece with strong serie-like elements. Sequenza is a collection of 14 pieces for various soloists that Berio worked on from 1958 to 2002. No. 3 is the only vocal piece. Four Folk Songs" is a work that shows Berio's sincere yet innovative approach to tradition.This is an interesting combination of an ambitious solo work and Ligeti's attitude toward tradition. Claudia Boettcher and Jovita Zerr, who have been a duo since 2008, will perform. This program was actually performed at a concert in 2010. This is a recording with a full house. King International
