This is a collection of quartet sonatas by three soloists and a bass player! Audax Records, Johannes Plamzoller's own label, presents a collection of quartet sonatas instead of "trio sonatas". Includes Japanese commentary! Johannes Plamzoller is a baroque violinist of the "21st Century Generation" who has made his way from South Tyrol to the world, and is a member of the Ensemble Diderot and the International Baroque Players. Plumzoller, who launched her own Audax label in 2013 and has discovered much undiscovered Baroque repertoire, is now pioneering a new collection of four-voice "Quartet Sonatas" with three melodic instruments and bass continuo! Trio sonatas were popular during the Baroque period, and quartets with basso continuo (quartet sonatas) appeared in the first half of the 18th century, but were later largely ignored due to the rise of the "string quartet" style.Among the quartet sonatas, which serve as important intermediaries between the baroque and early classical repertoire, this year's selection is a string composition consisting of a first violin, second violin, viola, and basso continuo. Both works are fine examples of the mixed style, an eclectic mix of French, Italian, and German styles, with the "scholarly, polished polyphony" characteristic of a repertoire that has largely fallen out of favor with the advent of the string quartet.
