Calmel, Olivier (1974-)

Description:

Notable recordings! Also performed by Les Siecle and Xavier Philippe! The album contains four concertante works by Olivier Carmel (1974-), one of the most popular contemporary composers in France today! Born into a musical family, Carmel studied piano and oboe, and studied composition with Dominique Rossi. In his class, he won composition prizes (harmony, counterpoint, and fugue), and in Guillaume Conneson's class, he won an orchestration prize. He then studied improvisation with jazz pianists Bojan Zulfikarpasic and Nico Morelli. He is currently working on orchestral works as a composer and composer-pianist, and is a member of Double Celli, an ensemble band of piano, string, and percussion players that he leads. He is also noted for his albums "IMMATERIEL" (KRJ-009) and "Metamorphoses" (KRJ-030), which have received high acclaim for their brilliant fusion of classical elements and jazz improvisation.Carmel has said that he draws inspiration from composers across time and genres, including J.S. Bach, Ravel, Debussy, Saint-Saens, Messiaen, Bartók, Stravinsky, Penderecki, Reich, John Adams, John Williams, and his father Roger Carmel. The artist has said that he draws inspiration from composers of all ages and genres, including Stravinsky, Penderecki, Reich, John Adams, John Williams, and his father, Roger Carmel. The symphonic concerto for cello and orchestra, "Ceremony of Peace," is performed by Les Siecle and Xavier Philippe! This piece was inspired by 20th century classical music, Egyptian folk music, and rhythmic and harmonically beautiful contemporary jazz. The diverse mix of music creates a fresh sound. Other works include a double concerto for alto saxophone, piano, and string orchestra based on the story of "Jekyll and Hyde," a fantasy concerto for horn quartet and orchestra based on the novel "The Call of Cthulhu" by American horror novelist Howard Phillips, and a piece inspired by John Music of the Trees, a concerto for wood quintet and orchestra inspired by the works of Williams, and a work featuring various solo instruments. The fact that these works are performed by outstanding players such as Les Siecle shows the level of attention paid to Carmel's work. King International
