The Fantasy in F minor, one of Schubert's late masterpieces, is paired with Brahms' Variations on a Theme by Schumann on a Theme written by Schumann in 1854. The three excerpts from Messiaen's monumental 1943 collection for two pianos, "The Vision of the Amen," function both as a grand, meditative interlude and as an introduction to Beethoven's "Grand Fugue," which is also a work for piano. Beethoven, Brahms, Schubert, and Messiaen, four undisputed geniuses, created a bridge to a world (the future) they could never have known by pushing the limits of artistic creation and by expressing themselves in pursuit of "eternity" beyond the boundaries of their times, They have always lived."To experience the moment of listening, the moment of experiencing, the moment of immersion in this album as a part of eternity--this is what we are aiming for with 'Eternity'."
