Cinquecento, a male vocal ensemble that continues to explore new horizons of Renaissance music Exploration of the 16th century Habsburg musical court in the form of two masses by Annibale Padovano The Cinquecento is the premier Renaissance male vocal ensemble, bringing together professional singers from all over Europe (Austria, Belgium, England, Germany, and Switzerland). Up to now, they have colored their albums with unknown programs from the Renaissance, mainly from the Flemish school of music, such as Jean Richardfort, Philippe Schöndorff, Philippe De Monte, Jacob Runyar, Heinrich Isaac, and others. Cinquecento's exploration of the depths of the thriving musical court of the 16th century Habsburgs reaches two masses by Annibale Padovano (1527-1575)! Born in Padua in 1527, Padovano was active at the courts of Venice and Graz, and was a composer & organist known primarily for his keyboard works as well as several masses, motets, and madrigales.Although praised at the time as "a man who really knew how to play well and compose well" (Vincenzo Galilei) and "a man of great worth" (Giovanni Artusi), he is now one of the most neglected musicians of his time. The Cinquecento is a mass based on Cipriano de Lore's madrigale "In the sweet shade of the beautiful leaves I ran fleeing from the merciless light" and Padovano's own motet "Lord, deliver me from the deceitful tongue and (Lord, deliver me from) the snare of the enemy, evokes the liturgy of the Mass as it might have been held in the Habsburg court of Carl II in our time.
