Pranchalorn was born in northern Thailand and later came to the U.S., where he studied at Illinois State University and won the first prize at the Alexander Zemlinsky International Composition Competition. His "Phenomenon," included in the first collection, won the second prize of the 2004 Toru Takemitsu Award. He is currently the Dean of the Faculty of Music at Mahidol University in Thailand and Composer-in-Residence of the Thai Philharmonic Orchestra and the Pacific Symphony Orchestra. His style combines elements of contemporary music with Thai folk and traditional music in a fascinating blend of Asian, Orientalism, and exoticism. His music is a fascinating mix of Asian, Orientalist, and exoticism, with an atmosphere of Asian Copland, southern Akira Ifukube, and many other idioms. (Tobu Shoji)
