Description:

Nadia Boulanger's brilliance revisited. The Boulanger sisters are known for their masterful teaching of the music of Copland, Bernstein, Markevich, Lipatti, Barenboim, Glass, Michel Legrand, Piazzolla, Keith Jarrett, and Quincy Jones, as well as their sister Nadia, who at 24 years of age, became the first to perform and record all the songs of her sister Lili, who died young. The genius sisters, whose younger sister Lili died prematurely, have been increasingly performing and recording their works in recent years. Nadia despised her own compositional talent in comparison to her sister's, and in the 1920s she stopped writing. However, it is said that Nadia wrote at least 38 songs in the first two decades of the 20th century, including "Ecstasy" on a poem by Hugo at the age of 14, all of which are included in this album. In addition, cello and piano pieces are also included. Listening to them, one is reminded of the fact that her works are not trivial, but rather gems of charming melodies and refined techniques. The album also includes 22 works by her sister Lili, whose output is similarly scarce, and ends with Nadia's arrangement of "On an Evening of Sorrow" for cello and piano. Including previously unpublished and world premiere recordings, the complete collection of songs was made possible through the cooperation of the International Boulanger Center. Lucille Ricciardot is a French mezzo-soprano who worked as a journalist until the age of 27. She is noted for her well-honed voice from the Middle Ages to the present day.French-American pianist Anne de Fournelle's clean pianism creates an ideal Boulanger sisters sound world.
